Behavioral enrichment

€5.00

This set, consisting out of a piece of cork bark and some cocos fibre, is a natural substitute for the dried skin and fur of a carcass - the habitat of dermestid beetles. By providing this form of behavioral enrichment, the growth of a colony can be stimulated.

Cork has antibacterial properties, making it ideal to use as a dinner plate for non-sanitized food. Larvae will also gladly make use of the cork bark by boring into it when they are ready to pupate.

It has already been proven that synthetic fur is a suitable medium for oviposition with Dermestes maculatus. Coconut fibres are a more natural fur replacement and serve the same purpose, so expect more eggs to be laid.
