Emerald cockroach (Pseudoglomeris magnifica)
The emerald cockroach grows up to 30 mm, with the females being larger and thicker than the males. The adult females also lack wings, which are only present on adult males. The males use their wings only for gliding and there is no need to be afraid that they will fly away. These cockroaches are active at day, relatively slow moving (for a cockroach) and are typically found under leaf litter, on tree bark or climbing branches. Especially pregnant adult females like to hide under curved bark cavities.
They feed on lichen, pollen and sweet fruits, but good vigor and health can be achieved on a diet of dog food, fish flakes, and apple alone. These roaches are the only known insect to feed their young bodily secretions similar to mammals and the nymphs can be seen clustered on the abdomen of the female, traveling with her. It's from the third instar onwards that they will start to explore the enclosure on their own.
This species prefers a low surface humidity. Mist the enclosure every few days when the air humidity is particularly low. This way the cockroaches will be able to drink the droplets. They should be given a good airflow.
Distribution: Vietnam and southern China.
Origin: Vietnam, Asia. In my care since 2025.
